An idea of the performance of NVIDIA’s upcoming Ada Lovelace graphics cards.
In tweets published in recent days, Kopite7kimi predicts the performance of several NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards. As he did for the GeForce RTX 4090, he first estimated the 3DMark Time Spy Extreme scores of the GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4070. He then suggested that the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti would compete with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.
Let’s start with the 3DMark TSE scores. The GeForce RTX 4080 would score around 15,000 points and the GeForce RTX 4070 around 10,000 points according to Kopite7kimi. Remember that the record is 14,611 points for a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti cooled by liquid nitrogen. The average for the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is 11,395 points; 10,300 points the GeForce RTX 3090; 8904 points for the GeForce RTX 3080; 6812 points for the GeForce RTX 3070. A score of 10,000 points would therefore place the GeForce RTX 4070 at the level of the GeForce RTX 3090 on this test.
Moreover, without communicating precise values this time, the leaker suggests that a card armed with a fully exploited AD104 GPU, in other words a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, would be able to compete with a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.

These forecasts may seem quite optimistic to you, but seem plausible for several reasons.
The first is of course the switch to a new graphic architecture (Ada Lovelace) apparently synonymous with 4 nm engraving (and no longer 5 nm as we thought). Then, there is an element that remains to be confirmed but which has been mentioned several times by AMD: the increased consumption of the GeForce RTX 4000, apparently much more greedy than current cards. For example, there is talk of a TDP of 300 W for the GeForce RTX 4070, where the GeForce RTX 3070 has a TDP of 220 W. Finally, most of the references in the range would benefit from GDDDR6X memory. In short, the combination of all these factors could actually lead to a significant generation gap. It remains to be seen at what price.
