Game News The indie games of the week not to be missed (PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch)

It’s hot, it’s getting hotter, sang Passi in 1997. And when it’s really too hot, we stay at home, plunged into darkness, with the fans on to play independent games! “Air, air” howled the L5s in 2002, but we bring you a breath of fresh air thanks to talented developers. Here is our selection of indie titles, with various and varied genres, which will arrive between August 1 and 5, 2022.

The Mortuary Assistant

Developed by the small team at DarkStone Digital, The Mortuary Assistant puts you in the shoes of a mortuary science graduate who cuts his teeth in the River Fields morgue. By dint of manipulating the dead and rubbing shoulders with death, nothing seems to be able to surprise you anymore. Until the appearance of entities that do not seem well intentioned wake you from your torpor. It would seem that the River Fields morgue was chosen by families who had suffered demonic possessions to deposit their deceased loved ones there. What was just a rumor meant to scare the undertakers is actually true: demons lurk here. The Mortuary Assistant offers to practice embalming as well as various work related to the maintenance of a morgue and a body. But also and above all to exorcise demonic forces, which cannot be learned in school textbooks.

South of the Circle

In the case of South of the Circle, we cheat a bit. The title designed by the State of Play studio (nothing to do with PlayStation) is actually published by 11 bit studios, to whom we owe Frostpunk, The War of Mine, Moonlighter. Like Devolver, the publisher specializes in promoting independent games. That being said, South of the Circle is a narrative game set during the Cold War. Rather than focusing on the conflict, the app dwells on the relationship between Peter and Clara, two academics facing important choices in their lives. Described as an “emotional” narrative experience with “a deep cinematic story”, the adventure developed by State of Play offers voices recorded by actors who have filmed in Bohemian Rhapsody, The Crown, Game of Thrones or even Chernobyl. With a superb artistic direction, South of the Circle could be a good surprise this summer.

Love, Money, Rock’n’Roll

Imagined by the creators of Everlasting Summer, Love, Money, Rock’n’Roll is a graphic novel which this time places the player in Japan of the 1980s. Nikolai, a son of Soviet immigrants, attracts the covetousness of wealthiest people in the region without him understanding why. Surrounded by different young women with varying personalities, such as Himitsu, the childhood friend, Catherine, the ex-girlfriend, Ellie, the school principal’s granddaughter, and Kagome, the class representative, Nikolai goes experience an event that will shake up his quiet little life. With several possible endings, the epic could delight fans of the genre. Attention, for the moment, no French translation is planned.

Find shelter that can withstand the most powerful attacks, the titanic creatures of GigaBash are about to blow up all the buildings in the city! The app developed by Passion Republic Games is about to bring out the beast that lies dormant in you. A true multiplayer arena fighting game, it is inspired by kaijū films by featuring titanic monsters. On the side of the references, the studio cites Power Stone as well as Super Smash Bros., which is rather good news for a game that aims to have fun with others. Playable up to four locally, in each for himself or in 2v2, GigaBash offers devastating attacks where the elements of the decor serve as weapons. With its 10 creatures to embody and its “evening” mode with mini-games, Gigabash smells like a multiplayer game designed to ignite hot summer evenings.
