After Ghost of Tsushima, this new game set in feudal Japan is one to watch very closely

Earlier in the month, we introduced you to this new video game The Witcherannounced by the famous Polish studio CD Projekt Red, which however should not appeal to everyone. And recently, it seems that a new game is also in the crosshairs of quite a few players, following the announcement of a brand new studio very promising.

a project that inspires

It’s been years now that the era of feudal Japan serves as an inspiration for the development of video games. Early fans of the genre will surely remember Tenchua series of stealth games featuring ninjas, or even nioh (2017), where players played as William Adams, considered the first samurai of Western descent. And lately there has also been Ghost of Tsushimathe latest license from the famous developer Sucker Punch Productions.

However, a website recently put online tells us that a new project is being developed, and that it will take up the theme of feudal Japan as a base. If we do not yet know the name of this next game, however, we know the name of the studio in charge: Dark Passenger. If the name means nothing to you, that’s completely normal, since this independent studio has just been created. Founded by former employees of CD Projekt Redwho worked on The Witcher 3 as well as Cyberpunk 2077the Polish studio arrives with a very ambitious first project.

Dark Passenger thus promises us a multiplayer game, emphasizing cooperation within the same team, but also on the competitive aspect. Moreover, it would seem that this next game highlights a one-of-a-kind “locomotion system” :

Our movement system will allow players to perform incredible feats, such as running on arrows fired by other players, quickly climbing vertical surfaces using shuko claws, or using a yari spear as a pole to jump over- over obstacles.

In addition, the game should also allow an extremely high degree of customization., both for the characters that players will embody, as well as their weapons and armor. More importantly, in the interest of constant renewal of the games, each will ask players to review their approaches, thanks to advanced procedural solutions.

If for the moment, few details have been communicated, it seems that the developers are aiming for a simultaneous release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X & S. But to wait, here is the description of the game that can be found on the Dark Passenger website.

A dark time looms for the Land of the Rising Sun when nameless conquerors overthrow the incumbent Shogun and seize the throne. All those who dared to oppose him not only failed, but also joined his ranks, against their will. As the usurper’s army grows stronger, his actions are carefully watched by the cunning lords of the shadow world. In order to know the origin and the motivations of the aggressor, the secret houses of the assassins send their warriors in search of the artifacts which belong to him, and which conceal an extraordinary power.

By taking the role of shinobi and kunoichi, the players will have to face the henchmen of the usurper, but also other shinobis who are in search of the same treasures. As they traverse these dark lands, players will be able to jump over rooftops, hide under the floors of huts, climb pagodas, and sneak into shrines or temples. The verticality of the terrain will provide unlimited possibilities of movement and the dynamic weather will surprise the players, with sudden rain, strong dusty wind or dense mists.

Players will encounter many social classes, ranging from simple villagers and beggars to high-ranking nobles and samurai. However, their objective is to remain invisible and to always remain vigilant in the face of threats, which may arise from all sides.
