How the pricing table works

After the EOS 7D, APS-C reflex cameras that focused on sports, Canon is back with the same philosophy in a mirrorless body, the EOS R7. Comfortably installed, the Fujifilm X-T4 must now face more modern and sharper competition.

Canon EOS R7: between efficiency and versatility, the right balance

Again, two different approaches clash in the ring. On the one hand, Fujifilm plays the nostalgia card with a design reminiscent of the heyday of film photography with a lot of knobs and chrome finishes. On the other hand, Canon remains true to itself by offering a fairly classic and efficient case. This first round is won by Fujifilm which offers a more compact and ambitious camera, as well as a better defined viewfinder. Canon defends itself all the same with a simple and pleasant model to apprehend, both for lovers of SLRs and hybrids.

Far from being a snail, the Fujifilm X-T4 is being overtaken by Canon’s latest addition. The EOS R7, worthy descendant of the EOS 7D Mark II, is particularly swift, especially in low light where it is twice as fast as its rival. It drives the point home with more advanced autofocus, delivering impressive face and eye tracking as well as an even faster burst. We detail the reasons for the superiority of the EOS R7 in a dedicated article that we invite you to consult.

Regarding image quality, the CMOS BSI sensor of the Canon hybrid is better defined than the Fujifilm X-Trans 4, displaying 32.5 megapixels against 26.1 Mpx. Both deliver excellent shots. More sharp at Canon in the low ISO values, the trend is reversed when the light runs out. However, the victory goes to the Canon EOS R7: its more sophisticated dynamic management makes it possible to recover more information in both high and low light.

Same story on the side of the video where the EOS R7 is essential thanks to its capture without cropping and its autofocus as effective in photo as in video. The Fujifilm X-T4 is not to be outdone, also offering 4K DCI capture as well as a slow motion mode at 240 fps in Full HD (against 120 fps “only”).

Although powerful, the Fujifilm X-T4 is forced to bow to the EOS R7. Particularly sharp, the Canon case is distinguished by its speed, its image quality and its video mode at the top. For its part, the Fujifilm hybrid keeps for itself a neat and attractive design.
