New enriched channels on DTT, this is what Altice promises with the acquisition of TFX and 6Ter

The parent company of BFM and RMC will strengthen on DTT with the acquisition of the TFX and 6Ter channels, provided that the M6 and TF1 groups merge.

Last April, TF1 and M6 signed agreements with Patrick Drahi’s group for the sale of the TFX and 6ter channels. The final completion of this transaction is subject in particular to the authorization of the Competition Authority and Arcom, and in addition to the completion of the merger project between TF1 and M6.

Today, the leaders of the Altice Group, the parent company of BFM, RMC but also SFR, were received by ARCOM, the new television regulator. Arthur Dreyfuss, CEO of Altice Media explained to the sages of the former CSA: “We don’t just buy two channels, but two channels. With two additional channels, we are strengthening our appeal to advertisers”.

He announced the projects of Patrick Drahi’s Group concerning TFX: “Today is the third wheel of the TF1 group. Tomorrow, channel 11 will be the best number in the group. It will be a showcase for the RMC-BFM universe”. And Altice intends to make it a real general-interest channel with, among other things, entertainment, magazines, documentaries, prime time fiction and more information, but not reality TV as is currently the case.

Regarding 6ter, available on channel 22 of TNT and Freebox TV, it will be “a positive family channel for well-being and good living with the family”, according to the description of Stéphane Sallé de Chou, general manager of RMC Découverte and RMC Story. There will be programs on themes such as parenting, hobbies, decoration etc.

Altice, which already has BFMTV, RMC Story and RMC Découverte, should therefore have very attractive new channels for it, in particular that of TFX on channel 11, i.e. ahead of the first continuous news channel. Thanks to these takeovers, the amount of which is not yet known, and the cumulative audience (11%), Patrick Drahi’s group could become the third dominant player on DTT, behind the TF1-M6 duo and France Télévisions. However, the TFX channel will remain fully controlled by TF1 throughout 2022.
