Facebook will change its home page, say goodbye to your news feed and the publications of your friends

Facebook, through the voice of its founder Mark Zuckerberg, has announced a major overhaul of its home page. The news feed as it exists today will be deleted next week.

Tiktok’s fault? To counter the other giants of social networks like Snapchat, Tik-Tok or even Youtube, Facebook must get up to speed with new uses and is going to have its interface modified in depth.

It was Mark Zuckerberg who himself announced this major overhaul at a time when the most popular social network in the world, 2.8 billion accounts, is struggling to attract new users, especially among young people, who prefer other platforms.

Less visible posts from friends

Facebook will thus put forward recommendations on the home page rather than page or group publications to which you are subscribed, thanks to artificial intelligence as is the case on Tik-Tok.

To make it simple, posts from friends, pages, events… should be relegated to a new tab: the “posts thread”. It will allow you to consult all the publications, in chronological order, of your subscriptions. This update is expected to roll out internationally within the next week,” Meta said on July 21.

Through this change, Facebook is emphasizing video and content recommended by “machine learning”, the fact that software constantly learns from your use of the platform in order to offer relevant content.

Meta therefore tries to follow the trend rather than create it, a strategy that has in the past proven to be profitable with the integration of stories on Instagram at a time when Snapchat was a hit. It remains to be seen whether Facebook can now transform the essay and become the new Tik-Tok.
